Baby Excitement!

My husband and I have been together for 12 years, since we were teenagers, which means I’ve grown up with his family and very much see them as family.  He has only 1 sibling, a brother who is a couple years younger than us. Since we have been together for so long, I have been present to watch his brother grow up for almost half of his life (eek!), so I have taken on a role of “big sister” and feel it in my heart.  I  have watched him grow through various stages in his life and clearly remember the moment at my own wedding when I met his girlfriend for the first time. Something about her was different and special, and whether that scared him or not, I don’t know, but I could tell he felt different about this “one”.  And more than 6 years later, this “one” is still special and I love her as a sister.

I have 2 daughters, and the only grandchildren for my in laws. I  did not think this was going to be changing anytime soon, so I was not prepared for the news earlier this year that he was going to be a father- it was the best surprise! (for us it was a surprise, not to them). Although it was unexpected to us, this was well planned and VERY well received and exciting!!!!  We went into planning mode shortly after finding out they were expecting and I have been enjoying doing a photographic series of her belly over the last few months (this is probably the hardest shoot as it is going to take 9 months to have a finished product!)

In September, they found out they were having a boy! My sister has 2 sons, so we have nephews however this will be the first “biological” nephew for my husband.  Our newest nephew is not due until February, but because of the holiday season and weather, the baby shower was planned for November.  Watching my brother and sister in law go through this journey has been very special for me. I can’t help but see him growing up before my very eyes. I am so very proud of both of them!

Here are just a couple details and shots from this sweet day.

Motorcycle Diaper Cake I made (Daddy to be has a bike!)

It was a Car theme shower- another diaper cake I made

Car theme Bum Cake (another hobby of mine) It’s hard to see but I made a ‘replica’ motorcycle of Daddy to Be’s (only his is blue)

It’s a lot harder to be in the photos, when you’re taking them! And it’s a lot harder to control the photo outcome, when you’re not taking them!

Holiday Time

I’ve never been one to be able to get my Christmas shopping done early (or even start early!) and my holiday season usually entails last minute shopping, rushing through the crowds trying to get in and out as fast as I could. If I started my Christmas shopping before December 10th, it was an early, early start!!!  Although I love crowds, I must admit, and shopping like this appeals to me.  I like watching others as they go about their holiday season shopping, I love watching everything about people, their expressions, their clothes, their families, the smiles as they find the perfect present. Lucky for me, it doesn’t stress me out to be at the “dreaded mall” during the holidays. I don’t even mind parking at the back of the lot!
And although I love this type of shopping, my shopping strategy changed with the birth of my 2nd daughter. She was not due until January 2011, and as much as I protested against having her early, making her a December baby, no one apparently told her! She arrived on December 29, 2010 adding to my already full birthday month of December. (My father’s is the 14th and even more lucky, my husband is born on Christmas day!)
This event changed my shopping strategy as I now had one more event needing my attention during the Christmas happiness.  Even so, thinking of Christmas events during the month of October was something I never thought I would be doing! However, this year that is exactly what I did.  I had many inquiries about doing Christmas photoshoots, long before I was actively thinking about the holidays.  And so off I went to find Christmas props for my shoots and set them up in my home studio.
I must admit, that doing so has gotten me into the Christmas spirit much earlier and even looking forward to all the festivities. For the first time in my adult life, I have actively put on the radio channel playing Christmas music! Now I feel that Christmas is SO far away, but I’m in the mood!
I have another day of Christmas shoots but thought I would share some of these adorable little ones, it fills me with excitement to think about the joy and excitement they will be feeling on Christmas eve.

PS The handsome furry fella is my old boy Titan (he just turned 12!)

The B Family

I come from a very big and loving family. My mother alone has 11 brothers and sisters (of which she is the 2nd youngest) which means many many aunts, uncles and cousins. Although the cousins ages span almost 50 years, the family bond and closeness is there. Christmas and family events were (and are) always fun and exciting over the years, each year adding new members and sometimes not recognizing current, quickly growing ones! Family reunions mean name tags for everyone!!
Even though there may be a ‘couple’ years between myself and my cousin, we have always been close. She was my sponsor for my confirmation in grade 8 (which was also only a “couple” years ago!) I love her dearly. I remember dancing the day she married the love of her life and thinking of my own future- I was still just a teenager.  She was there and part of my own wedding day.  She welcomed and loved my children. Perhaps one can say her path was a little different than my own but that never got in the way of our friendship.
Finally we were able to celebrate the blessing of a beautiful angel who they welcomed into their lives just over 2 years ago. It was a long awaited, much anticipated, wonderful time. We now have children who are just a few months apart in age and watching them together is a riot! I was very excited to be able to photograph them as a family, including their 4-legged child!
Mr Serious, as I like to call him, was more interested in marching and exploring but persistance won and I captured a smile on camera! (there were LOTS not on camera, but Mr Serious likes to take his role very seriously when it comes time for photos!
I’m sure you too can see the immense love this family has and know that I love them just as much!
