Heartbreaker Challenge

As some of you may know, as a “day profession” I am a registered veterinary technician and work at South Windsor Animal Hospital (www.southwindsoranimalhospital.ca)   We are a close knit group of co-workers and thoroughly enjoy taking part in various charity & fundraising events.  This year, some of my co-workers decided to take on the task of running in the Heartbreaker Challenge at Malden Park.  This event was put on my Windsor Regional Hospital and raised money for the Cardiac Wellness Centre and Pulmonary Rehab Program.  If any of you are familiar with obstacle events such as Tough Mudder, this was formed to be similar.  Participants had 15 obstacles throughout the race to overcome.   From giant mud pits to crawl through, muddy water ditches to trudge through (some areas the water was waist high!), walls to climb, tires to carry and more.  While I did not actively participate in the event, I went to photograph my co-workers (including my boss) and show my support (although I did not realize I would walk the length of the park 4 times and be up and down hills while following them- boy was I sore the next day!!)
I hope you enjoy some of my favourites!

Way to go everyone who participated in this awesome event!!!

The Big Reveal!!!

I recently had a very excited shoot.  My brother and his girlfriend were surprised when they found out they were expecting, but imagine how much more surprised and shocked they were when they were told it was natural TRIPLETS!

A baby is always a miracle, but when that miracle becomes 3 unexpected miracles, well that is awe-inspiring.  Up until this point, I hadn’t really done a gender reveal photoshoot.  I guess you could say “go big or go home” this time as this was a triplet gender reveal! I received the envelope just 24 hours before the shoot, enough time to allow me to prepare. But in all honesty, I did not look in the envelope until about 2 hours before the shoot. I didn’t want the potential of a ‘slip up’ and I also felt guilty being the person who knew for “so long” before anyone else- so I didn’t peak 🙂 I can’t describe to you the emotions and how I felt during this shoot.   For those of you who hadn’t heard of a Gender Reveal- the parents to be receive the sex of the baby (or in this case, the babies) and are not told during the ultrasound.  They then drop off the envelope to me and I coordinate a shoot to reveal to them what their baby (or babies!) are!  I am able to capture those first emotions for them to have forever, and of course, a cool way to announce to the world!DSC_6629-WEBDSC_6642b-copyDSC_6650-WEB

So much excitement…so many tears and there are still 2 to go!

The photo on the right makes me smile every time I look at it.  Through both of their tears and smiles and laughter (while looking at the ultrasound of the “girl parts”) I hear in a small confused voice  “I don’t know what I’m looking at!”

Happy Birthday Miss M!

Miss M’s mama owns Tout Chic Baby Boutique (if you haven’t, you should check her out on Facebook or at her Etsy shop, http://www.etsy.com/shop/ToutChicBabyBoutique!).  I heard of her business when another client of mine came with a gorgeous tutu for her own childs shoot.  I loved her work and started purchasing props and items from her.  I was very excited when she contacted me to do her daughter’s 1st birthday shoot.  When Miss M showed up with her mama and papa, I couldn’t stop staring at her amazing eyes.  She looks just like her mama! She has these beautiful big blue eyes and adorable pink, perfect little lips!  I don’t know if I’ve ever faked sneezed so much in my life! Her mama made this wonderful smash cake for her to enjoy, but Miss M had other ideas in mind!  We laughed when she wanted nothing to do with the “yucky cake” but life was made complete with just a few cheerios!!!
I enjoyed having this sweet peanut over for her shoot and am excited to continue a wonderful business relationship with her mama and her business!!

My New Nephew Baby J! ~*9 days new*~

I photographed my newest nephew when he was just 9 days old.  Which gave me lots of extra snuggle time without having to share him!  He was very interested in what I was doing and loving his mama’s milk so he didn’t want to sleep too much.  Looks like he’s going to be just like his big cousin, my daughter and never want to miss A: whats going on in life and B: a meal!  I haven’t quite decided who he looks like, although he certainly has his daddy’s eyelashes! They are insanely long! (A little jealous, I admit it)

I also photographed him growing in the womb every 4 weeks from 18 weeks, with the final shot being when he, himself, was 4 weeks old.  I love watching baby bellies grow! Truly is a miracle of life!!Jaxson 9 days new March 6 2013 ONLINE USE (1) Jaxson 9 days new March 6 2013 ONLINE USE (3) Jaxson 9 days new March 6 2013 ONLINE USE (5) Jaxson 9 days new March 6 2013 ONLINE USE (12) Jaxson 9 days new March 6 2013 ONLINE USE (13)

Young Beauty

Miss K’s mother not only wanted photos of her sweet new son, but she also scheduled a shoot of her beautiful daughter.  Miss K is 12 years old which is slightly older than my last few girls I have photographed!  I welcomed a new ‘challenge’ of finding a perfect balance for shots, not too juvenile and yet certainly not too grown up.  We had quite a few hysterical laughs as I have now learned a new dance from Miss K! She also had her own ideas to some poses she wanted to do which was great!!!! I think her parents are going to be in trouble as she is such a gorgeous girl!

Welcome To The World Mr L! ~*13 days new*~

Although this little guy wanted to make a fashionably late appearance, once he decided he was ready he flew into the world!  His big sister has been waiting patiently for 12 years for him to arrive and she is such a sweetheart! She was an amazing assistant for me during his shoot, which allowed mama to sit back and relax for a couple hours.  Once Mr L was asleep he was A-SLEEP!  What a wonderful teeny beeb!!

Happy Birthday Sir!

I have photographed this little big guy since he was still in the womb! His mom, dad and I have been friends since highschool and I was overjoyed when they contacted me to do their maternity photos and equally (if not more) thrilled when I did his newborn photos.  I’ve been watching and photographing this little guy grow throughout his first year and now it all comes down to his first birthday shoot!  I have yet to determine just who he looks like more, he seems like a perfect blend of both his mama and his papa.  (Although during his shoot, he did make a few very clear “I’m exactly like daddy” faces! Welcome To the World

Yesterday evening I became an Auntie….again.  My husband and I already have 2 nephews on my side of the family.  This time, his brother was the one expecting.  I posted Jessie’s maternity photos not too long ago and the time finally arrived for the little man’s debut.
The immediate family members waited patiently throughout the evening and just into the early morning today.  It was a little bit of a rough road for Jessie, but finally, at about 11:45pm he arrived into the world.  Sweet little Mr J.

I was so incredibly proud of my brother in law today.  It’s like I saw him grow up in an instant.  (He is my husband’s “Baby” brother) Today he bacame a dad. Wow.  I also am incredibly proud of seeing my sister in law slip so naturally and comfortably into the role of a mother.

And seeing the new love and excitement on both of their faces as they looked down upon this tiny bundle that they created, well, thats just about as good as it gets.

The arrival of Mr J marked the first grandson for my inlaws, we ourselves have two daughters.

Oh how we are going to spoil our new little family member! AO AP AQ AR AS AT AU AV AW AX AY

Glowing Mama- It’s almost time!

I don’t have much else to say except my sister-in-law is beautiful.  Pregnancy agrees with her and she is absolutely glowing.  I cannot wait to meet our newest nephew.  Thinking of the excitement my brother-in-law and sister-in-law are about to experience brings me joy!  Becoming a parent is such a truly wonderful event. And he will be the first grandson for my in-laws so he’s going to be spoiled!

I wish I had looked even half this amazing when I was pregnant!

Mr C Turns One!

I met Mr C and his family a couple months ago when I photographed him for Christmas. When his mom contacted me to do a cake smash shoot for his first birthday, it was a no brainer!  This little guy is so sweet!  His first encounter with me, he was Mr Serious but this time he was all smiles.  And once again, when it came down to the cake smash portion, he dove right in!  He was enjoying himself to the fullest and was quite the messy boy when he was finished. (Or should I say when we finished, I think he would have kept playing!)
I’m still in awe of his baby blues- I don’t think any photograph can truly capture the essence of his blues and how blue they are!  But I’m sure you get the idea. Enjoy!!
